Toms Wee Hopper

Tom’s Wee Hopper is a simple and versatile grasshopper pattern. The fly is deliberately drab in colour and small so the fly will catch aggressive fish in fast broken water, and will also convince the more challenging trout in slow water that get more time to look at the fly. The slim foam body and small rubber legs help the fly float beautifully and support a nymph beneath it if desired. It also features a hi-vid sighter to make this fly even more visible to the angler.

More fly information...

The hopper pattern can be fished as a single dry fly or with a nymph beneath it. It is a buoyant dry fly that can be slapped down on the water to draw expecting fish waiting along or under the river banks to it. It can be fished in all types of water and will catch fish feeding on small and large grasshoppers all across Australia.
We recommend fishing the fly on 5X to avoid ‘spinning up’ finer tippets, and fish caught on it are often tight to structure and along the banks.
The fly is tied on a barbless dry fly hook, making it kinder on fish that often engulf a hopper pattern while enjoying excellent hookups.
