dctrout created: The bow and arrow roll cast

A real interesting and food for thought article Brad.
I have shown the standard bow and arrow cast to quite a few flyfishers over the years (some of them being very skillful in other areas) and always surprised when they don't know how to do it.I get a big kick out of watching them get a trout out of a tight spot using it.It is a case of being an essential cast to add to the arsenal in the waters that I fish.
After reading your article I had a play around with the technique described whilst fishing on the weekend and found it added quite some distance to the standard bow and arrow cast and certainly a bit different application to a rollcast. It is really good to have another "club in the bag" to improve my short game as these are my favorite waters.
I didn't catch a trout using it but will let you know when I do.

I like to call it the 'scare the life out of them and watch them bolt' cast.

I used to employ this cast in the early days (another stalwart cast of w.a.) but now I just walk past.
that cast always felt like cheap shot to me.

but then again, we are talking about me.
not just anyone can prance down a river.

cheers,
shawn

not all forums consist of 'which 5wt?' and 'what can I have for $200?' but they're very hard to find.

fly fishing for dummies.
