MJLParticipantLooking forward to reading Greg’s book!👍🏻
Also, the following has just been posted on the Fishers & Walkers Facebook page:
“Timeline: June 22, 2023 is what we understand to be the deadline (give or take a day or two) for a decision on Lake Malbena. That will be 7 years since the Tas Libs secretly rezoned the world heritage area and 3 years since the $20 / week world heritage lease was revealed. We’re ready for it to end. One way or another.“
The department has extended their deadline. Decision is now due by 16 Aug.

flylifeModeratorI reckon they have gone back to the developer for more information…

BarryJParticipantHopefully, he will get a “ please explain” over the discrepancy between the actual number of objections (5306) compared to his reported 626!

flylifeModeratorShould be a good night. Will be there for sure…👍
August 16, 2023 at 3:05 pm #953660
flylifeModeratorSounds like a further 40 working day decision delay…🙄

BarryJParticipantHopefully the delay means that all the submissions opposing the project are receiving the consideration they warrant!

flylifeModeratorLooks like another decision delay… until 23 November.🙄
November 16, 2023 at 10:25 am #956505
flylifeModeratorAnd yet another deferral, but now a very big hurdle for the proponent to jump in the form of a comprehensive aboriginal heritage assessment…

BarryJParticipantThis is what Fishers & Walkers had to say on Fb about the deferral:
“Wanting a news SPLASH on Lake?
Well, the federal government has kicked the decision can down the road further.
We were hoping for a final decision by November 23 but yesterday the federal department issued a statement saying they are requesting fresh information from the proponent, and therefore delaying a decision.
This is good news.
Why?
Because it’s information Hackett will find impossible to produce.
In the original material he provided it was clear he had failed to do any meaningful consultation with the Aboriginal community and also failed to produce any form of Aboriginal heritage assessment.
Now the feds have demanded just that. He’s toast. Because he’s treated that community with disdain and along with over 5000 of us they put in several submissions against his flight of fantasy.
The Feds have also asked him to respond to the recently released Statement of Outstanding Universal Values – the definitive document that outlines all the values his project will degrade.
So, we have to wait longer – but we will win.
We hope you enjoy your summer in the Western Lakes, because they will be wild and free, and they always will be.
Malbena Matters!”
