    UP locking, I mean.
An unlocking seat would not be a good thing 🙂

 That would be a pain in the ass. Probably hard to market also.

Not uplocking or even TJs unlocking reel seat but
downlocking seat is a better option for small rods IMO.
    Much simpler and lighter.

    Something like this:

    I disagree Andrew.
An up locking will balance a graphite rod very nicely. With the reel closer to the casting hand, you effectively reduce any pendulum effect, allowing creative casts on tight water, through the wrist.
I would only use downlocking seats for (a) their retro look (b) old reels that wont accommodate a modern seat and (c) to better balance up top heavy media like fiberglass.

Actually the balance all depends on the combined weight of reel and line. So either an up locking or a down locking reel seat could be suitable depending on the weight of reel and line. For small rods the use of two bands is a better idea as it allows you to move the counterweight (read reel) into the best position. Especially relevant if you have a DT line.

Also have a look at Harfin reel seats – they’re Australian and beautiful.

    Hi David,

Does anyone know if Harfin are still in the business making reel seats?
