    Hi all

A mate and I love fishing the corner of Lake Benmore near the Ahuriri delta  for midging trout. We fish from float boats early in the morning and it can be sublime.

Normally we fish in November and provided the Ahuriri isn’t running a bank it’s great. Later in summer the corner of the lake can suffer badly from weed infestation.

We are contemplating a trip in April hoping that the water has cooled and the weed has died out.

Does anyone have any experience fishing that location at that time of year?

Any thoughts on the regions rivers (Ahuriri, Tekapo, Twizel etc) at that time also gratefully received.

    cheers

I love that region in April, the hatches on the rivers like the Tekapo can be fantastic when the conditions come together and angling pressure has dwindled to almost non-existent. Rainbows are also starting to make the way upstream in numbers and can reach a good size, the Ahuriri similar and of course the Tekapo tribs like Mary and Grey’s etc can also fish well before the season close. The other bonus is the weather is normally settled in April.
