    Hi

could someone let me know how to access Hays Inlet for some land based fishing, from the beach or wading through flats from upstream of the M1 to downstream near the old bridge.
    And the best times etc

ive googled it etc but I’m not sure how to get to the flats.

    Hi Michael

The only way to get to the flats is with a kayak or boat. There’s a channel you need to cross that is up to 3m in spots. The inlet fishes well in summer on a rising tide with the full and new moon. Also at the bottom of the tide, fish the bottom of the drains with a  clouser or prawn imitation for flathead. The rocks under the new bridge on the Clontarf side hold bream most of the year but it is very snaggy country. The Pine river on the southern side has a good run of trevally in early winter as well but once again a boat or kayak makes it easier to fish.
