    I wash my rods down after using them with dish  washing  liquid and a sponge.  Including  the reel seat and cork grip. Rinse and wipe down with clean soft cloth, Then air dry. Before putting them away I apply furniture polished to the blank guides and reel seat. Keeps them like new. The cork grip I find just washing with sponge keeps it in good condition.  I have restored cork on old fly rods by giving them a light sand with fine sandpaper then applying wood putty to fill any imperfections then re sand with 400 grit sand paper. Brings the cork grip back to like new condition.
