    Hi All,

Does anyone have a photo or receipe of the “original” bag fly (not the new one with black tail and gold body)? I’m sure i’ve seen it some where on the internet ,but for some reason google doesn’t bring it up for me.

Here’s a video by Bruce Smith.he gives a bit of history related to the fly that may prove useful

.I was originally introduced to the Bag fly late in the eighties,if memory serves the only difference to the one you described is that it didn’t have the red beard and instead of the black tail it had a red tag.

You can also find it as the Fly of the Month through the VFFA April 2018,

and there’s also reference to it in Coulson’s book Australian Fly Patterns.

But it does hide itself in Google searches!

Yep 80’s on the G around the breakaway by a bloke called Mick Hall who I have no doubt would be able resolve your question re materials/recipe with ease.
