Fishing

Early in the season during high flows the river fishes well for nymph anglers. As the water drops and warms through spring the fish begin to look up and there is very good dry fly fishing. You can expect to see a range of insects hatch from mid spring until the end of the season, the most common are mayfly, caddis and midge. Over summer there are many terrestrials that the fish feed on including grasshoppers, willow grubs, ants and beetles. This is such a popular river because it is perfectly suited to dry fly fishing and nymph below dry fishing.

Access

River access upstream of the Taggerty-Thornton Road is plentiful, there are angler access styles courtesy of landowners and fisheries, and there are also campsites in the upper section. The lower section where the river moves through farmland is far more difficult.
