Fishing
The Mitta fishes well season long, the early season the water is very cold so nymph fishing is a must and is very productive. As the water warms through spring the river sees some very good mayfly hatches. The warmth of summer brings on big caddis hatches and beetle falls, and as the summer progresses grasshoppers start to emerge and the fish key onto them. Through autumn you can expect to see trickles of smaller mayfly hatching as well as a mix of other insects such as midge. The varied water types in this river allows anglers to fish a wide range of techniques, dry fly and nymph fishing are best, however fishing streamers and wet flies also producing lots of fish, including some of the bigger ones.
Access
Access to the Mitta Mitta and Big River is plentiful. There are many tracks from the Omeo Highway (C543) that will lead you to great water on the river.
