Fishing

Fly fishers will find the Bundara River particularly rewarding. Grasshopper action in the lower valley during summer and early autumn is a highlight, with trout eagerly taking terrestrials. Evening rises are frequent, and mayfly hatches provide opportunities for using dry flies like Stimulators, Elk Hair Caddis, or Kossie Duns. When trout aren’t rising, pairing a dry fly with a nymph is a productive strategy. The river’s upper reaches, offer some of the best fishing, with a mix of riffles, glides, and deep pools.

Access

Access to the Bundara River is convenient, particularly in the lower valley where a gravel public road runs parallel to the river for about two miles. This section, which leads towards the river’s junction with the Mitta Mitta, can be heavily fished due to its easy reach. Anglers can also enter via Callaghans Road, which opens up several kilometers of water in the partly cleared lower valley. Though this area is popular, it offers plenty of space to fish. For those seeking less crowded spots, the more rugged upper reaches of the Bundara can be accessed through private property with permission. Some landowners are known to allow access to these sections if approached respectfully. This stretch rewards anglers with more solitude and excellent fishing conditions, as the river winds through less developed and wilder terrain.
