One Planet Rumour Waterproof Sleeping Bag

Leighton Adem tests the One Planet Rumour sleeping bag on a cold riverbank

As I’ve got older, I’ve become increasingly intolerant of being cold. A restless night shivering beside a river no longer holds much appeal. The Rumour quickly convinced me that I don’t have to choose between warmth and comfort.

I tested the -12°C model in June, bivvying beside a river after fresh snow had fallen across the nearby Alps. Overnight temperatures dropped well below zero, exactly the sort of conditions this bag was designed for.

What impressed me most wasn’t simply the warmth—although there’s plenty of that—but how well the bag managed moisture. Despite being toasty warm, I never woke feeling clammy or sweaty. The waterproof, windproof Pertex Quantum Pro outer and welded seam construction shrugged off overnight condensation and damp riverbank conditions while remaining remarkably breathable. Sleeping under the stars or beneath a bivvy, that extra weather resistance inspires real confidence.

The generous cut through the shoulders and box foot made it easy to move around, while the hood cinched down comfortably around my head on the cold nights. Little details such as the well-insulated draft tube behind the full-length YKK zip did an excellent job of keeping cold air out without making entry and exit a wrestling match.

The quality of the 800–850 loft hydrophobic down is obvious the moment the bag comes out of its stuff sack. It lofts quickly and feels reassuringly substantial without being excessively bulky.

I also like that One Planet independently temperature tests the Rumour series. It gives you confidence that the published ratings are based on objective testing rather than optimistic marketing.

These bags are filled to order in Melbourne using ethically sourced down. In an era where so much outdoor equipment has become anonymous, it’s nice to know exactly where your sleeping bag comes from and who’s made it.

The Rumour isn’t the lightest sleeping bag on the market, nor is it trying to be. This is not the bag you bring out for kids sleepovers. It offers dependable warmth, excellent weather protection and thoughtful design for people who genuinely spend nights outdoors.
