Orvis Recon Fly Rods
Orvis brings Helios-inspired strength and versatility to the latest Recon fly rod series
The latest Recon fly rod series from Orvis delivers a compelling mix of durability, performance, and versatility, positioning itself as a true go-anywhere rod built for anglers who demand reliability without sacrificing feel.
Drawing on construction techniques inspired by Orvis’ flagship Helios range, the new Recon rods are engineered with increased hoop strength, resulting in improved lifting power and overall durability. This makes them particularly well suited to real-world fishing scenarios—whether being transported in the back of a ute, strapped to a pack, or travelling to remote locations. Despite this rugged build, the rods retain a refined casting character, offering smooth loading at close range and accurate tracking when reaching out for longer casts.
The Recon series is designed to adapt across a wide range of environments. From presenting small dries in tight headwater creeks to punching larger patterns into structure or saltwater wind, the rods maintain a consistent balance of power and control. Rather than chasing unnecessary complexity or aesthetic flair, Recon focuses on practical, dependable performance.
The range includes 13 freshwater models and 6 saltwater models, each tailored to its intended application. Freshwater rods feature a matte olive blank with honey accents, paired with black Type III anodised aluminium reel seat hardware and a hardwood insert. Saltwater models adopt a matte blue blank with light blue accents and incorporate a fighting butt for added leverage. Across the series, chrome snake guides and stripping guides with SiC inserts ensure smooth line flow and durability.
Supplied in a nylon-covered rod tube and backed by a 25-year guarantee, the Recon series reflects a strong emphasis on longevity and value.
Overall, the new Orvis Recon rods offer a robust, versatile solution for anglers seeking high-end performance in a durable, travel-ready platform. It’s a rod series built not for display, but for use where reliability and adaptability matter most.
